What Does CHRS Do for You?

  • Protects the historic fabric of Capitol Hill
  • Protects Capitol Hill’s residential character by challenging non-residential developments in residential neighborhoods
  • Provides advice on maintenance and repair of historic buildings
  • Works actively to improve city services such as street repairs, tree and park maintenance, trash collection, and recycling
  • Engages in community issues like public safety, traffic controls, surplus school disposal and Ward 6 planning
  • Hosts Preservation Café presentations that impart information on ways to contribute to the beauty of our homes and neighborhood
  • Works to ensure that building regulations are applied consistently, in a manner that enhances the neighborhood
  • Reviews all zoning and construction proposals and appears before the historic Preservation review Board, the Zoning commission and the Board of Zoning Adjustment to ensure appropriate development
  • Monitors development in adjacent areas to assess how the historic district will be impacted
  • Assists DC government in identifying and addressing abandoned properties
