Virginia Avenue Tunnel Grant

The DC Preservation League (DCPL) is now accepting matching grant applications for historic preservation projects within the Area of Potential Effect for the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Reconstruction Project (click here to view flier and map).  Applications are due Friday, December 4, 2015.Under DCPL’s Preservation Initiatives (PI) Grant Program, the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Fund aims to distribute funds within the geographic area surrounding the Virginia Avenue Tunnel Reconstruction Project to preserve, restore, research, identify and evaluate, interpret or otherwise benefit historic resources within the project area.
The VA Avenue Tunnel Fund, is administered by DCPL, in consultation with the DC State Historic Preservation Office (DC SHPO). Funds for the VA Tunnel Grant Project were provided by CSX Transportation Inc., and through the DC Historic Preservation Office as mitigation for adverse effects associated with reconstruction of the historic tunnel in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
The selection process for grant recipients is competitive and all applications will be ranked by the following criteria: Historic Significance, Project Management, Community Impact, and Project Urgency.
