Whose Land is it Anyway? The Public Squares and Parks of Capitol Hill
On Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 6:30 pm, Justine Bello, an Architectural Conservator, will discuss this important topic at our first-ever virtual Preservation Cafe.
Our Capitol Hill neighborhood is dotted with public squares, grassy triangles, and parcels of land in every shape and size imaginable. These lands give us parks and playgrounds, statues and shade. They contribute to the human scale of the city, and to the cultural landscape of our neighborhood. But how and why did these lots get set aside, what mechanisms exist to preserve them, and whose land is it, anyway? To answer these questions and more, architectural conservator Justine Bello will virtually walk us through the Public Lands of Capitol Hill.
