Capitol Hill July 4th Parade – 2022

Posted on July 4th, 2022

CHRS, 2022 Parade

The Capitol Hill Parade stepped off, as planned, at 10 am from underneath the I-295/395 overpass (at 8th and I Streets SE). It was great to see friends and neighbors and distribute lollipops to the spectators. Photos

As part of our ongoing outreach efforts, Society volunteers fielded a contingent in this year’s Capitol Hill 4th of July Parade. Out of concern for the environment, we substituted consumable lollipops for the plastic Mardi Gras beadsi gras flung in days of yore. These were well received and are much lighter to carry and pull along in our garden cart. As an interesting side note, we’d decorated that cart with leftover house tour tickets and received requests from spectators for the “pamphlets” – which we were very glad to pass along.

We got lucky with the weather – a clear day and not too, too hot.  And our placement in the parade could not have been better. With fifers in colonial costume next it line, we enjoyed music every step of the way.

Hip-Hip-Huzzah! to event organizers, Phil Guire, Jeanne Harrison, and Christine O’Reilly  of the Jeanne Phil Meg Team at Compass Realty – they made it look easy. And many thanks to everyone who marched with us: Maygene Daniels, Nick Alberti, Beth Purcell, Elizabeth Nelson, and our new President, Angie Schmidt.
