Mayor’s Agent Upholds Protection of Historic Epworth Church

Jun 28, 2013

On June 17, 2013, the DC Mayor’s Agent ruled that the character-defining stained glass windows in the historic Historic Epworth Church at 700 A Street, NE, may not be removed.

The Decision, which denied a permit request from the World Mission Society Church of God to remove all stained glass windows from the church, is a preservation victory that upholds the DC Historic Landmark and Historic District Protection Act’s “core purpose of retaining and enhancing contributing buildings in historic districts.” CHRS offered testimony at HPRB and the Mayor’s Agent hearing asking that the permit be denied. Hepworth Church Decision
