Talking Turkey: Science, Values and the Future of Food – Village Voices

Sep 21, 2018

Village Voices:  Talking Turkey: Science, Values and the Future of Food, Wednesday, November 14, 2018, 7-8 pm at the SE Library, 403 7th St. SE.

As Thanksgiving approaches and we turn our attention to traditional feasts, Dr. Catherine Woteki will share with us important information about the food we eat, today and in the future, based on her lifetime of research into the science of human nutrition and her understanding of the food industry and national food policy. From 2010 to 2017 Dr. Woteki served as U. S. Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Research, Education, and Economics, as well as the department’s chief scientist. Earlier she worked as global director of scientific and regulatory affairs for Mars, Incorporated, and served as the first USDA undersecretary for food safety from 1997 to 2001. She was dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and director of the Agriculture Experiment Station at Iowa State University from 2002 to 2005 and returned to the University’s Food Science and Human Nutrition faculty in 2017.
