Local artists displayed their work in their own micro-galleries, on porches or in yards. See the list of artists below and samples of their work.

The Capitol Hill Jazz Ensemble gave live performances during the event.

New additions! In anticipation of our first-ever Virtual House and Garden Tour, we are collecting mini cell phone videos (< 2 min) of neighbors talking about some feature of their home that they think would be of particular interest or that they’re particularly fond of. 

Since this scavenger hunt was originally published, in May 2020, several items have disappeared. We’ve left their pictures in place to acknowledge the amusement they provided but have noted their absence. As we become aware of others, we’ll update. Below are pictures of the items to seek.

Mary Jane Schmidt has created a new website, The Women Who Shaped DC, which includes a 1.4-mile walking tour of historical sites on the Hill: Temporarily off-line. 

Guided, outdoor, mini-tours of Gessford Court SE will be included in the 2019 House and Garden Tour, Saturday, May 11 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. 

Guided, outdoor, mini-tours of Duddington Place SE will be included in the 2018 House and Garden Tour, Saturday, May 12 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. 

Tennessee Avenue, Warren and C Streets NE – These streets have it all — fascinating history, famous architects, excellent architecture, including tiny houses, and all nearby.

A walking tour of Terrace Court NE was included in the 2017 House and Garden Tour.  The court is inside the block bounded by 2nd, 3rd, A and East Capitol Streets NE and includes eight alley dwellings constructed in 1889. Terrace Ct Handout
