Researching your house’s history – free searches of Washington Post 1877- 1997 and 1987- present

On the DC Public Library website, you can research your house’s  address and names of people who lived there, and then email articles.   Here’s how — Go to www.dclibrary.org>research> databases>local newspapers>Washington Post>Proquest or click here. You will be prompted for your DC Library card number and logged in; then search the Washington Post.

For example, type in an address with quotes around it  “1606 G Street”. Washington Post articles show that a named individual at that address completed militarytraining in 1944.  Earlier, a named individual at that address was involved in an unpleasant divorce. You can then search for names of individuals connected with your house.
