CHRS crew at Eastern Market Zip Trip

Local Fox 5 News does an early morning broadcast from a neighborhood location on Fridays.  On July 19, it was Eastern Market’s turn to host the crew. Management at the Eastern Market extended an invitation to CHRS to join other community non-profits and vendors in creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere under the shed roof.

Many thanks to the Jeanne Phil Meg Team at Compass Real Estate for organizing the traditional Capitol Hill July 4th Parade!  As in past years, CHRS fielded a contingent and tossed lollipops into the crowd.

CHRS offered guided outdoor walking tours on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, 2024. The focus was on Capitol Hill Alleys. 

Steve Callcott, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, gave a presentation and answered questions on June 17, 2024 at Hill Center, 921 Pennsylvania Ave SE.  

Story of Our Schools Exhibit

On May 28, 2024, CHRS members and guests were treated to a terrific presentation by Jen Harris, executive director and founder, and Erin Roth, development director, of the Story of Our Schools. Harris and Roth described a project they recently completed at Eastern High School where students, teachers, alumni, and other community members created a permanent exhibit to celebrate the centennial of Eastern’s building on East Capitol Street. The presentation was recorded.

Trinidad Boys Club

Kim Prothro Williams presented a free, virtual Preservation Café “Hidden Alleyways of Capitol Hill,” April 23, 2024. She is the author of “Hidden Alleyways of DC: A History,” published by Georgetown University Press and available at East City Bookshop.
