Capitol Hill has many hidden alleys and charming one-block streets with a past mix of residential and industrial uses and some of our most diverse populations. Explore these unique communities, their houses and history, their ups and downs, who lived there in the past and who lives there now. Gessford Ct., Walter St., Kings Ct., Duvall Ct., Cluss Ct. Take a virtual peek inside Undine & Carl Nash’s re-purposed-warehouse residence on Adolf Class Ct. SE.
Plan on walking about 2 miles in a little over 2 hours. Be prepared to walk in any weather; a raincoat or umbrella may be necessary. Comfortable shoes are a must.

High Life and Low Points – This tour features the alleys north of East Capitol St. and west of 7th St. NE – The lifestyles, occupations, and shenanigans of the inhabitants; early industrial uses, including commercial stables and a Locomobile (early form of steam-powered automobile) shed; and efforts both to eliminate and to preserve alley dwellings. Visit 6 1/2 Ct., Millers Ct., Douglass Ct., Terrace Ct.

The Capitol Hill Parade stepped off, as planned, at 10 am from underneath the I-295/395 overpass (at 8th and I Streets SE). It was great to see friends and neighbors and distribute lollipops to the spectators. Photos
