Smart Lighting Project Hearings
Posted on April 21st, 2018
The DC Street Light Team has announced two upcoming public hearings on the District’s Smart Lighting project, “Safer. Smarter. Greener.” Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 1-3 pm at the Palisades Library and Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6-8 pm at the Lamond-Riggs Neighborhood Library. Th project is a joint effort of the Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), and the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OP3) to modernize the District’s more than 75,000 streetlights. The intent is to create safer, more reliable lighting customized to the needs of each neighborhood, faster repairs of outages, and to save energy costs and reduce the District’s carbon footprint. The project also includes Smart City technology to expand the District broadband Wi-Fi network and provide a platform for other applications that serve residents more effectively like traffic monitors and air sensors.
The hearings will be held in town hall style format, with a public presentation from government representatives followed by 3 minutes of speaking time for each individual who registers. Those interested in speaking at the public hearing must register at https://op3.eventbrite.com/. If you cannot attend one of the public forums, please send written comments to StreetlightP3@dc.gov by Wednesday, May 30, 2018.
