What Does CHRS Do for You?
- Protects the historic fabric of Capitol Hill
- Protects Capitol Hill’s residential character by challenging non-residential developments in residential neighborhoods
- Provides advice on maintenance and repair of historic buildings
- Works actively to improve city services such as street repairs, tree and park maintenance, trash collection, and recycling
- Engages in community issues like public safety, traffic controls, surplus school disposal and Ward 6 planning
- Hosts Preservation Café presentations that impart information on ways to contribute to the beauty of our homes and neighborhood
- Works to ensure that building regulations are applied consistently, in a manner that enhances the neighborhood
- Reviews all zoning and construction proposals and appears before the historic Preservation review Board, the Zoning commission and the Board of Zoning Adjustment to ensure appropriate development
- Monitors development in adjacent areas to assess how the historic district will be impacted
- Assists DC government in identifying and addressing abandoned properties
